"The real reason I left the Upstarts was because things became impossible. For
a start you live with geezers 24 hour a day, 7 days a week and you get to find
out things about them. Things I couldn't put up with, like homosexualism being
practiced under the same roof I was sleeping under, which wasn't on. I would
like to know, could you tell me, if it's a crime to be in love with a bird. I
left the Angelic Upstarts to better myself, because at that time the stuff they
were playing at that time was like "Guns for the Afghan Rebels" and that sums
it up doesn't it. I'm not into that sort of crap. I'm just trying to make good
music and that's why I joined the Rejects, It wasn't all to do with my bird.
And I see Glynn Warren's come out of his little shell, it says here (reading
issue 3) "Stick's lass was a dead idle", that's a lie, she kept the house
immaculate and she never came down for 6 months. They just used her as an
excuse. I left them because they were shit. I wouldn't stop to that level to
use someones bird as an excuse, I leave that part of peoples lives out. I
DIDN'T LEAVE THE UPSTARTS FOR MY BIRD, I LEFT THEM PURELY TO JOIN THE REJECTS.
I know the Upstarts are no match for the Rejects at all, the Rejects are 10
times better, whether I was in them or not. I'm glad they found my diary
because I did have a bit of a bad time, I couldn't speak to anyone. Well, I
could speak to Mensi or maybe Mond but I never got on with Glynn Warren but it
got a bit deep and I couldn't speak to anyone. There are few times I've seen
Glynn Warren drink a bottle of whiskey and sit and cry over his bird."
"I still respect Mensi, he's a great geezer, and Mond I got on with really
well. If it wasn't for Mensi and Mond I wouldn't have got the chance to be
where I am today, I even respected them when they brought that single out.
Even though it wasn't fair, obviously I had the hump about it like anyone
would."
